Recently, the Mulleavy sisters scored a gig as the guest designer for the
Pitti W event. As the duo behind the fashion label '
Rodarte', they put up 10 garments as installation pieces - suspended mid-air and using light illuminations - in an unused building in
Florence. Taking inspiration from Italian artwork like
Fra Angelico's frescoes and Gian Lorenzo Bernini's '
Ecstasy of Saint Theresa', Rodarte's collection made use of feathers, crystals, ornate embellishments, pleats and draping. Previous guests at this biannual Italian tradeshow included
Gareth Pugh (see next blog) and
Proenza Schouler. Here is Rodarte's collection, which will be donated to the
Los Angeles County Musuem of Art after this
Pitti event (14 - 17 June 2011)
