In the 1913 poem "Sacred Emily",
Gertrude Stein famously wrote "
Rose is a rose is rose is a rose". I didn't know who she was until someone explained to me, as we were watching the play "
Dr Faustus lights the lights". The production, by the
University of Ballarat Arts Academy, was as interesting as Stein herself - a renowned poet, writer, avid art collector and quite the legend in the Parisian bohemian community during the 1900s. So here's the inspiration for the day, as inspired by Stein's famous quotation...
