With the royal wedding now being yesterday's news and in response to my previous blog, yes, it was
Alexander McQueen after all. Not quite Alexander "Lee" himself, but the frock wonder
Sarah Burton is now possibly the hottest thing in town. Decorated with hand cut English lace and French Chantilly, the ivory and white satin gazar dress worn by Kate Middleton (aka Duchess of Cambridge) had a 2.7m train and was drawn upon traditional English Victorian design elements that McQueen was so famous for. All in all, it was a spectacular dress but somehow in my head, all I thought was "
Grace Kelly, Grace Kelly, Grace Kelly..."
Designed by
Helen Rose, a wardrobe designer at MGM, it took 6 weeks for 30 seamstresses to make
Princess Grace's wedding dress. Using 125 year old Brussels Valenciennes rose point lace for the bodice embellished with pearl detailing. the dress utilised twenty-five yards of silk taffeta, one hundred yards of silk net, peau de soie and silk tulle for the faille bell-shaped skirt. All in all, Princess Grace was a vision on her wedding day, 18 April 1956
Her bridesmaid wore custom-made pale yellow organdy dresses with yellow organdy hats and wrist length white gloves. They were designed by
Joe Allen Hong at
Neiman Marcus
