Vanina Sorrenti

Hailing from a family of photographers, Vanina Sorrenti is the youngest of the family after Davide (who died from heroin overdosed in 1997) and Mario (alive and still working in fashion photography). Born in Naples in 1973, the Sorrentis moved to NYC where Vanina studied drama. She then moved into fashion styling and took up photography in 1998. She has done shoots for i-D magazine, British Vogue and Nylon, shooting the likes of Kate Moss, Bridget Hall and Ali Michaels.

What I like about her photography is the way she juxtaposed images together, creating simultaneously different shapes and expressions on the very same canvas. Fluid yet strong, they are like contradictions captured in the same breathe.
