The Pre-Raphaelites

Around 1848, a secret society was founded by a group of English painters, poets and critics in defiance of that era's methodical and pompous approach to art. Consisted of William Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais and Dante Gabriel Rosetti amongst others, the Pre Raphaelite brotherhood rejected theatricality of Renaissance master, Raphael, whom many art critics and historians worshipped during that time.
