A Spine For Romance

I find it rather challenging to use Frida Kahlo as inspiration for a fashion collection. That's why I love Ricardo Tisci when he proved me wrong with the Givenchy Fall 2010 Couture. In fact, he worked three elements from the painter's life into this collection, down to the fine details on the dresses: religion, sensuality and the human anatomy. The lace that were used extensively have skeleton motifs, as were the zippers with pulls shaped like skulls sprouting angel wings. Tisci explained that it was "a romantic way to see death". The irony of such dark expressionism? Use white and the lightest of light.
